We are potting frantically now to get all the baby plants ready for spring. These are sweet potato vines, coleus and ageratum.

We love looking at a sea of baby herbs. Lavender, rosemary, sage and fennel. It smells so good in that greenhouse. Make us want to cook something up!

Spring has sprung!

After a long, grim winter looking out at a sea of black matting and little color we were beginning to feel a little blue. We love color and the sepia tones of winter were bringing us down. Painting the workshop a cheery new tone helped; then Sharon and Genevieve died yarn with natural dies (more on this on our Facebook page). That helped our spirits some, but the views out the windows were still gloomy.
But finally, the sun came out, the weather warmed up, and we got in some bright, colorful flowers! Our mood changed to one of hope and anticipation. Surely spring would arrive soon and the nursery would be full of fabulous plants and happy customers. We are scurrying around now to put the nursery back into the spread out, full tilt space, finish the Summer cookbook, and be ready for our favorite time of year.

Hard at Work

Getting the nursery ready for the spring rush happens any time the weather is nice. Black matting may not be "pretty" but it is very functional and helps us keep the weeds down. What a lovely week it is and we are taking full advantage of the warmth.

Fun at the Nursery
You might wonder what we do on icy cold days at the nursery. Today we received a shipment of garden art and unpacked and priced it in the warmth of the office building. Our cat Iris helped.
A shipment of baby plants also came and had to be unpacked in the greenhouse. We always get excited when those little plants arrive and we can see what we will really be growing for spring.
The greenhouses are starting to fill up now.

The Happy Crew

Needless to say the weather was too cold for us this past week. We definately know how to dress for cold though. These are the girls dressed for inside. They look like snowmen when they bundle up to go out. We will certainly enjoy the next two days until it cools down again.
In the meantime more and more plants are being potted up for spring. The greenhouses feel nice on sunny days so that's the place to be.
