Handmade candy

During the February 2nd Saturday Art Jam, we exhibited and sampled handmade candy.
Sharon has been making homemade truffles for us for years, and owns all these tools and molds for making gourmet candies.

We made and gave samples of peanut butter truffles

Sharon didn't like the way they looked, but she was busy visiting with her sister, who came to visit from New York, so she was distracted while putting them together.
Plus, she made several other goodies for the day.
On the cake stand is a dark chocolate/nut bark. The recipe sounded wonderful - dark chocolate with pistachios, hazelnuts and macadamias. We were disappointed in the end product though.

Mary made Sharon's Chocolate Ganache truffles. You can get the recipe for them on her blog:

Sharon also made the most popular candy of the day: Mocha Rum Balls. Here is that recipe:

Mocha Rum Balls

1/4 cup freeze dried coffee
1/4 cup rum
1 tablespoon water
2 tablespoons cocoa
2 cups vanilla wafer crumbs
3 cups confectioners' sugar, divided
1 cup chopped nuts
3 tablespoons light corn syrup
dash salt

In a mixing bowl, dissolve coffee in rum and water. Add cocoa, vanilla wafer crumbs, 2 cups of confectioners' sugar, chopped nuts, and corn syrup; mix well.

Sift remaining 1 cup confectioners' sugar onto waxed paper. Scoop up one teaspoon of mocha mixture; roll into small ball. Roll in the sifted confectioner's sugar. Continue with the remainder of the mixture.

Store in tightly covered container for several days to bring flavor out.
Makes about 4 dozen.
